"Robert is a brilliant musician. It’s not just that he plays well or that he’s a skilled and gifted writer. It’s his intuition and prescience with a piece of music that first got my attention. As an accompanist, he is spot on, but as a collaborator, he is to be trusted unreservedly. He is also a gifted educator, a beloved choir director, bandleader... (George Masswohl - "Come From Away")

Canadian/Australian musician Robert Graham is an award-winning pianist, singer/songwriter, and vocalist, as well as a Music Director, collaborative pianist (vocal, instrumental, and dance), choir director, vocal/repertoire coach, educator, writer, and human-rights activist.

Recently relocated to his former home of Perth, Western Australia, Robert is equally at home performing classical, pop, rock, musical theatre, opera, and jazz repertoire. He is also a creator of award-winning original multi-genre music (see "Songwriter" above) and also collaborates with others to produce new works of theatre and musical theatre.

Like his own original music, Robert's career has been varied and eclectic, encompassing many genres. Please click (and/or hover) over any of the tabs above to discover more and also please consider signing up to Robert's mailing list (see above) to keep up with his musical activities.

Robert's Musical Journey

Growing up in Gibsons, British Columbia, and Perth, Western Australia Robert graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Music Education. A very short teaching career ensued - which came to an end when Robert decided - at the age of 25 - that high school teaching was not for him.

Since then Robert has been on an amazing and beautiful rollercoaster of a musical journey. Together with his songwriting and performing, Robert has been Music Director on numerous Theatre productions and concerts across Canada and Australia.

His musical collaborations have also included several multi-genre bands and ensembles - including two UK tours with Canadian roots supergroup and (Canadian Folk Music award winners) "Tanglefoot", Australia's Chilean group "Los Chasquis", his own Toronto band "The Fairest and Best", and most recently legendary Australian Aboriginal band "YABU".

Robert started his songwriting career relatively late in life - but music from his debut solo album "Storm in a Teacup" and the debut EP from "The Fairest and Best" elicited three all-network sync licensing contracts (The Discovery Channel, Fox Sports and The NASCAR Network) as well as contracts from thirteen individual TV shows - including I Am Cait, The Real World, Bad Girls Club, Total Divas and three Kardashian shows - none of which Robert has ever watched! It was also added to the playlists of over 100 radio stations across North America and his songs have garnered awards from the UK Songwriting Contest, the Billboard World Song Contest, the Dallas Songwriters Association Song Contest, and the "Songs for Social Change" contest - among others.

Robert was the inaugural recipient of the 2018 Douglas C Cowling Bursary in Liturgical Music and also a winner of a 2019 Toronto Artscape Foundation Launchpad Bursary.

5. January 2020: One of the songs Robert wrote and recorded by The Fairest and Best, has been picked up by a boutique Slovenian high-end audio company called Erzetich. They have chosen 10 songs, from a world-wide search and "Celebrity" was one of them. It will be on a gold-plated audiophile quality CD which will be used to market the company and the artists. Excited to be back to play some of the songs from my new album "The Line" for the good folks in the Perth Hills. A great lineup including Mat Cal, Bernard Carney and myself. My set starts at 9:45pm.

Act.1. Mr. BERNARD CARNEY.

As a featured and MFnBC favourite from the club's infancy at the previous venue, there’s little that can be said that hasn’t already been said about this particular performer.

A genuine Perth identity and entertainer in a league of his own.

His contribution to music, particularly in the acoustic field, his numerous and enviable award-winning songs and albums along with ongoing voluntary work with the “Spirit of the Street” and “Working Voices Choir’s” saw him awarded with the Order of Australia in 2019.

An enormously gifted singer / songwriter, guitar player and satirist with the rare ability to see both sides of any coin, then flip it. We may see a slightly alternate side of Bernard on this occasion.

A musician, a gentleman and always a pleasure to welcome him back.

Act.2. MATT CAL.

Influenced by the classic Australian song writing nature of Paul Kelly, the power of folk-rocker Neil Young and pop artists like Vance Joy, Matt returns offering a solo contribution on this occasion after appearing previously (2019) in trio format.

Apart from a busy performance schedule, including touring W.A. with Australia’s leading exponent of slide guitar, Jeff Lang, Matt hosted the Kalamunda Songwriters Round Table for three years and took centre stage himself at the Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre in February with a presentation of his original, “blues influenced acoustic folk”

Winning the 2011 Blues / Roots category for his song “Overdrive”, Matt continues to expand his catalogue of original songs, tours regularly and extensively throughout the state and includes the major W.A festivals, Nannup, Bridgetown Blues and Denmark Voice to an impressive CV.

Act.4. ROBERT GRAHAM. “The Piano Man”

Those fortunate enough to catch Robert’s previous appearance at MFnBC in September 2021 witnessed an instantly appealing, audience winning presentation and will understand why we are pleased to welcome back the extraordinary talent of this recently returned Canadian singer / songwriter and pianist extraordinaire, now promoting a new C.D, “The Line.”

Released late in 2022, the album contains a collection of honest and poignant observations of life as seen by many. Themes of Family, loyalty, love and separation are explored and the album has been described as “beautiful, comforting, heartbreaking... and so much more.”

The lead track from the album, “When the World Began Again” reached the finals of the Dallas Songwriters Association.

Blending his appearances with emotion, humour and tales of the often-odd life of a professional musician, Graham freelances with the W.A. Opera Company, Perth Symphonic Chorus and continues as a solo journeyman at venues across Perth and W.A.

The C.D. will be available for purchase.

MENU: It’s PIZZA night ! (Limited numbers available, 2 slices per person.)

Unfortunately, the kitchen staff have taken alternate bookings elsewhere again.

Hopefully negotiations with new & interested parties will prove positive.

PLEASE NOTE : CASH ONLY PLEASE – NO CARD PAYMENT.

Feel free to BYO snacks, nibbles and / or 3 course dinner if you prefer.
